A patio cover does more than shelter
A good cover extends your season. In summer it doses the sun, in autumn it keeps the rain off, and with closed side walls you'll still be sitting there in March. The difference is in the roof: rotating louvres you turn with the sun, a fabric roof you roll up as soon as you want light in, or glass that lets light through all year long.
